Newsletter fall 2024

To all my patients

After having been a general practitioner for more than 30 years, 27 of which in Pijnboomstraat, I will be retiring as of the coming January 1st. It has been a privilege to be a general practitioner, your general practitioner, and I thank you all for the trust you have placed in me.

A lot has changed in general practice. When I started in Haarlem in 1997 with my predecessor Dr. LĂĽling, we had one assistant. The Emergency Post didn’t exist yet. In 2001, we transitioned to the Schoterpoort, where today 8 general practitioners (4 practice owners and 4 salaried GPs), 2 practice nurses for somatic care, 2 practice nurses for mental health, 1 practice manager, and 10 assistants work, plus trainees and general practitioners in training!

Healthcare, and particularly general practice, faces significant challenges. That was the case in 1997, and it still is today. Fortunately, I have found an excellent successor in my colleague Lisette van der Eem. Just as was the case with my former colleagues Limmen, de Groof, and Oidtmann, the new team, consisting of my successor and colleagues Steketee, Louwet, and Duijn, forms a strong and dedicated partnership. So, I can confidently hand over  my stethoscope.

I wish you all the best, in as good health as possible!

Best regards,
Kees Sikkel

Practice Takeover

My name is Lisette van der Eem, and as of January 1, 2025, I will take over Kees Sikkel’s practice due to his well-deserved retirement. Since I have been working in the practice since March 2023, I have already had the chance to meet many patients. For those who don’t know me yet, I would like to introduce myself.

I am originally from Haarlem and now live with my partner Guus and daughters Roos and Emma in Santpoort-Zuid. I studied medicine at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, after which I lived in Tanzania for a year, conducting research on the quality of maternal healthcare there. Upon returning to the Netherlands, I worked in the gynecology and obstetrics department until I could begin my general practice training at VUmc. In 2021, I graduated as a general practitioner. What excites me about this profession is the connection I can build with patients and the variety of issues and people I see during consultations. I try to pay attention to the personal situation of each patient sitting in front of me during every consultation. I look forward to taking over from Kees and am confident that, together with GP Sandra Bosch and, of course, the fantastic team of assistants and practice nurses, we can continue to provide trusted, warm care to all of you.

New General Practitioner Sandra Bosch

My name is Sandra Bosch. Starting in January, I will be working as a permanent GP in the practice of Lisette van der Eem. I began my specialization as a general practitioner at Schoterpoort in 2020, and returning there now feels like coming home! Since 2023, I have worked as a locum in various practices in the region. As a permanent GP, I am most looking forward to building a trusting relationship with patients and providing the most suitable care from that foundation. Additionally, I live in Haarlem with my husband, and I love walking in the dunes, reading, and enjoying good food.

See you at the practice!

Departure of Suzanne van Straaten

As of January 1st, I will be leaving Schoterpoort to take the next step in my career as a general practitioner. I do this with mixed feelings. I have worked in the practice with great pleasure over the past 2.5 years and have built valuable relationships, which I will miss. I am confidently passing the baton to Dr. Schouten, who will become the permanent colleague of Dr. Duijn.

Wishing you all the best!
Suzanne van Straaten, General Practitioner

New General Practitioner Britt Schouten

My name is Britt Schouten, and starting in January 2025, I will happily join the practice of Marina Duijn.
I studied medicine in Maastricht and gradually moved further north. I worked in the Emergency Department of the Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital in Tilburg and then in various nursing and care homes in Amsterdam. In March 2023, I completed my GP training at the AMC, and since then, I have worked in various general practices in Haarlem and the surrounding areas. My love for general practice stems primarily from its versatility. No day is the same, and that appeals to me greatly. Additionally, I see it as a challenge to earn the trust of my patients, so I can support and help them as best as possible during difficult times.

Three years ago, my partner and I moved from Amsterdam to Haarlem, and this year we welcomed a baby boy. In my free time, I love being outdoors in nature, traveling, and enjoying dinners with family and friends.
My working days will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Did you know that…

â–Ş Dr. Sikkel prefers to focus on his patients and does not enjoy being in the spotlight? Therefore, there will be no farewell reception.
▪ You don’t need to check in at the front desk if you have an appointment? You can take a seat in the waiting room of your GP or the practice nurse on the first floor.
â–Ş You can sign up for the patient portal? Here, you can order medication, request e-consultations, and schedule appointments. Visit our website www.schoterpoort.com for more information.
â–Ş The best way to make an appointment is by phone or via the patient portal? It is also more difficult to ensure your privacy at the front desk.
â–Ş The medical assistant is specially trained to perform triage? By asking questions, she can ensure that every patient receives the right care at the right time.
â–Ş There is a nationwide shortage of medical assistants? We are also affected by this, which may result in longer wait times on the phone before you reach the assistant. The assistants are doing their utmost to help everyone as quickly and efficiently as possible. We appreciate your understanding and patience.
â–Ş A standard consultation lasts 15 minutes and is intended for one issue? If you want to discuss multiple issues or if it concerns psychological problems, please schedule a double appointment.
▪ If you suspect a bladder infection, you can leave your urine sample in the refrigerator at the entrance? Don’t forget to fill out the form.
â–Ş You can make an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccination with the GGD? Appointments can be made until December 6 via https://ggdafspraak.nl/corona/plan-je-prik.
▪ There is a lot of reliable health information available at thuisarts.nl? If you’re unsure whether you need to call a doctor, check www.moetiknaardedokter.nl.

As from January 1st 2025 Schoterpoort will consist of the following practices:
